Final thoughts
I am deleting my LJ. Seriously. Wow. I've been here since 2003 and I really tried to keep posting here, but it's become apparent to me that since around March, I really haven't. I've been really busy with the camels, with fencing, school, I have a friend probably moving in with me soon... and just generally too busy to write in here. I do think of things I want to write, but I kind of don't end up doing it and I really don't want this to become a chore. Also, starting at the end of September, throughout the month of October, I'm going to be travelling through Italy to Greece and then who knows to where and I just feel like this is a good point in my life to say faretheewell to this old journal. I'll be keeping a paper journal during this trip, which I feel is much more personal and just better. I've thought about leaving the journal up to just preserve it, but instead settled on downloading all of my entries. I just felt like it would bother me too much to leave it up, almost as if it were dead and not buried 'properly'. I don't know when exactly I'll actually delete it, cause I'm really not in a rush. I'll definitely leave this message up for a bit so that people don't think I just suddenly vanished. I'm not sure what else to say, but I feel like I haven't said enough of a eulogy! Well, I've been on this thing since I was a freaking teenager and I honestly surprised I stuck with it so long. Livejournal really is an amazing web site and it's definitely stood the test of time (at least for me). I have met a ton of wonderful people on it that I will of course continue to talk with off of livejournal. I may edit this if I can think of anything else later. |

dream
I dreamed there were zombies running around. Their faces were obscured by thick pink bubbles that oozed out and dangled down and dripped on the floor. They weren't especially terrifying zombies, they seemed happy in a zombie way, but I did not like it one bit when one got into the house. I don't own a shotgun. Mechanic??
Alright you knowledgeable Seattle people you. I need a decent car mechanic, preferably somewhere around the Udistrict/Wallingford/Fremont area. I have an '89 Honda Accord and I took it to the mechanic I've trusted and loved for years to get an oil change and a new muffler and after finding out they've had a change of management, they apparently have to keep my car till Monday and I dropped it off yesterday morning - WTF?! I checked the memories..something like this totally needs to be in the memories, I'm sure I've seen this exact post before. Oh and I was hoping for something a little more personal than google. Thanks!! Current Mood: frustrated |

Nerdy book question
Does any one know of a good used book store or two in the Seattle area that sells a lot of the older Star Trek books? (Specifically looking for the New Frontier series, not that that probably helps much.) It's for my boyfriend's birthday. We've already scoped out all the used book stores in the U-District. We can get them from Amazon but it would be sweet not to have to pay for shipping. Thanks in advance! |

Lazy daze of summer sweet Lil Miss Penelope Free, happiness in a blanket :) Today is curtains wide open allowing full sun to fill each room. Windows are firmly shut as the temp is 98 degrees in the shade. AC is blaring and it feels good. Iced peppermint tea, incense burning and music playing quietly in the background barely audible above the buzz of the AC.Time to put down the engrossing little novel I picked up from the used bookstore yesterday and attempt to do some chores. Wash some dishes and maybe some laundry. Mop the floors and vacuum the rugs and then I will allow myself to pick my book back up and read a chapter or 2 or 3 before starting dinner. Tonight's menu- burgers off the grill and veggie kabobs made with summer squash and tomatoes picked from our garden :) Current Mood: content |

Genre Microfiction
From wondermark.com, these made me laugh... the comments are brilliant! I was talking with a friend about a Twitter-based fiction contest that he’d seen, and he mentioned that this contest had stipulated genre requirements. So, of course, the conversation turned to how short a story could possibly be and still have some recognizable genre. I postulated that it wouldn’t take much at all:
“A final tear dripped down her dying cheek. Cancer! On our wedding day!” [Drama/romance]
“A final tear dripped down her dying cheek. Tuberculosis! On our wedding day!” [Period romance]
“A final tear dripped down her dying cheek. Nanobots! On our wedding day!” [Sci-fi]
“A final acidic tear dripped down her dying, scaly cheek. Dragon cancer! On our wedding day!” [Fantasy]
“A sultry bead of sweat dripped down her heaving bosom. Lust! On our wedding day!” [Erotica]
“A bloody tear dripped down her already-rotting cheek. Zombies! On our wedding day!” [Horror]
“A final tear dripped down her bullet-riddled cheek. Mobsters! On our court date!” [Crime]
“A final tear dripped down her dying cheek. Cancer! On our gay wedding day!” [Gay/lesbian]
“A final tear dripped down her goggles to her sprocket-laden corset. Brass poisoning! On our wedding day!” [Steampunk]
In fact, I bet between all of us we could write microfiction in every conceivable genre. Leave a comment and let’s prove it. |

Sangria
Just made sangria. I've never made it before. Pretty much followed this recipe: http://www.spain-recipes.com/basic-sangria-recipe.htmlExcept that the oranges they had at the store were pretty crappy and came from South Africa (why?), so I used grapefruit instead. And also, we have a rule about halving the sugar of any recipe, which led to the ridiculous act of adding a half tablespoon of sugar instead of the full thing. So it's sitting in the fridge now. I guess it'll have to sit in there for two nights, since tomorrow I have some sort of family thing to go to... I used a nice Malbec called Zamba, because it's cheap and good. I like Argentinan wines as much as Chilean ones. Mostly inexpensive and usually very good. I need an alcoholic icon. This one will have to do for now. |

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
My boss took us all to see the new Harry Potter movie today, which was pretty awesome of him. I liked the film, and I'm glad the producers are keeping the same director for the remainder of the series. Although the movies are flawed, they still capture the books pretty well. Half-Blood Prince is my least favorite book in the HP series. It reads like fanfiction to me, and I had to force my way through most of it. The movie takes what didn't work about HPB and fixes it. Hermione doesn't act like she's PMSing her way through the entire movie, the teenage love stuff is cut down (although that's more due to time constraints), the endless flashbacks are cut WAY down, and the movie is pretty good overall. However, I think they might have been a bit too stringent with their editing toward the end. ( SPOILERS. ) Current Mood: tired |

Kitties?
I know someone just asked a couple days ago, but does anyone want two sweet cats? They're not mine, they're my roommates', but neither of my roommates use livejournal, so I thought I'd post here, too. Anyway, the cats are Chicken and Grandpa, fixed female and male. Chicken is a chubby shothair tuxedo pattern, and Grandpa is a gray shorthair. They both have gorgeous green eyes. Neither has any real behavioral problems, though Chicken does scratch occasionally. I'm sure you could rename them; they're cats, they don't care. They're both quiet, and occasionally will curl up on the couch with you. Grandpa has this ridiculous way of flopping down on the carpet, like he's saying, "Oh, whatever, screw it!" I'm moving into a no-pets building (which is why I have no pets). My roommates are cutting costs by moving in with a relative, who doesn't allow cats. They've been trying to find a home for the two cats for months, but it's now approaching our move-out date. I never thought they'd actually send these two babies to the shelter. :( I wish I could take them. I've already tried to convince many of my relatives that they need two more cats. I just really, really don't want them put down. |

Quick update
Oh how I love summer! Fall is still my favorite but only after I've had my fill of summer :) Summer came late this year, it officially started in July rather than June thanks to a long month of "June Gloom". I love sleeping with all the windows wide open and waking up to a house full of bright summer light. Lazy summer afternoons sipping iced tea and reading trashy novels, grilling chicken or burgers every night, picking veggies from our amazing garden. Summertime means road trips and family vacations. I just got back from a wonderful road trip up the coast with my daughter. I drove her up to Northern Cali where she'll be going to school this year. We had so much fun! It was our first Mother/Daughter road trip ever. I stayed with her for 5 days while she got settled in and then flew back home. We explored the town, went hiking thru the Avenue of The Giant Redwoods, walked along the beach finding treasures, ate out with friends, shopped for her new room, went to the movies, planted a small garden outside her window and set her room up. It was hard to say good bye but she was so happy with her new place/life that it made it a little easier. Next week Brandon and his beautiful girlfriend are flying down from Oregon so we can all go on a family vacation in the Sierra's. We rented a cabin by the lake. I can't wait! Life is good.We still have our ups and downs, but it's the down times that make us appreciate the up times that much more. We have our health, we have our home, we have each other. I choose to be thankful for that which I do have and not dwell on the things that I don't. The kids are all doing well and are very happy. Brian and I are "aging gracefully" ;) We are enjoying being "young" grandparents, getting use to having an empty nest, staying busy with household projects and new hobbies ( even Brian has a new hobby, he is brewing his own beer and he loves it!) For the most part we lead a fairly quiet, simple life ( which is how I like it ) although this month we have been quite the social butterflies. There have been many parties, Nick and Susan's 1st anniversary party, Britt's going away party, backyard barbeques, 2 big "Turning 50" parties, Nick's b-day dinner and I went to a new to me in home party called Scentsations. Had a visit from a favorite cousin that I hadn't seen in years.Reconnected with a very dear friend. I have 2 lunch dates next week one includes driving down to the beach which I'm really looking forward to as I have only been to the beach once this year when we went camping last month. We will end the month with our trip to the Sierra's. Next month looks to be just as busy and we're still planning our cruise to Alaska in September (knock on wood). We will be going up to visit Britt in October and then driving on up to see Brandon in Oregon as he is only 5 hours above Britt. After that it's all about the holidays :) The economy has taken it's toll on quite a few of our friends and some of our family members. It's interesting to see how people adapt. I've seen one friend lose their home and another who is about to. I've seen families move in together and combine their incomes. I've seen some very innovative young people start a promising new business. I've seen young kids struggle to find the funds to finish school. It's actually been very inspiring to witness these things. I've seen that life does go on, people are stronger than they know and family and friends are much more important than stuff and things. People are getting re-educated and learning to prioritize. I hope everyone else is doing well and enjoying their summer. |

Belltown "standoff" last night
If anyone was wondering why 14+ police cruisers had a block of 2nd Ave cordoned off here's why: www.kirotv.comSome places I've lived I've been tempted to do something like that (minus the racial slurs) when some SUV with tinted windows and spinners idles across the street pumping gangsta rap so loud it vibrates my windows when I'm trying to sleep on a weeknight. But, seriously, if you live on 2nd Ave across the street from Lava Lounge, Shorty's, etc. it seems reasonable to just expect it's gonna be loud. Snark away. |

Trying to bus it on Monday to Food Handlers Permit
NE 125th st & 15th ave ne --to-- 14654 148th Ave. NE, Woodinville, WA 98072 (Sammamish Valley Grange ) I am on a mission to try to get my food handlers permit on Monday, my designated day off. Trip planner will not get me to god damned woodinville. Metro Transit trip planner doesn't even try to get me into woodinville, they give me bellevue, orting and renton as options but none of the street numbers come close to what I am looking for. Community transit says there are no bus stops near the destination, (w/in 1 mile) of the testing center and there fore will not give me a rout. I am willing to walk up to 2 miles as long as I have head phones that'll be a piece of cake. I have zero experience in busing it up North. On the other hand I can sleep walk my way down to Tacoma. Tuesday's class is offered @ 3100 East Valley Highway Renton, WA 98057. Trip planner only gives me East Vally ROAD as an option. Are those two words so easily interchangeable? Am I SOL till Wednesday? I am trying to lock down a part time job while my other part time job dwindles away. Are there any commuters from these areas that could lend some insight? |

For those of you who have kids or babysit
I'm not 12 and I was offered a paying baby sitting gig. I sat for free a couple times to build up references (to become a nanny) and one of those folks recommended me to someone else and they're asking what I charge. So all that being said.... what the crap do babysitters charge around here? |

I just can't help it, I have this uncontrollable urge to eat meat. Red... raw... meat.
I didn't draw these pictures- But I wish I did. Actually, they're snappyz from the classic b-movie "The Day The World Ended" which I watched a few days ago and enjoyed immensely. It's a nifty lil post-apocalyptic ditty from the 1950's by b-movie master Roger Corman littered with a cast of swanky swirly and surly actors fighting over each other and all of them are liquored up and trigger happy while being oogled at by a mutated manbearpigmonkey after the big atom bomb has radiated the California landscape. Whew-that was a long sentence! But, I didn't draw those, but I drew this while watching it-a penciled sketch of my buddy Koltar and his son- and going thru some stuff littered about The Ragzpad, I stumbled upon this drawing of another character based on a friend of mine that I did about 10 years ago. I really dig it, so I thought I'd share it with ya. CLICKY ON THE PIX FOR A LARGER VIEW I'm now about to go full on in school work, I have a portfolio review coming up, I have Maya skills n' projects to get up to par, tons of artwork and lifedrawing classes to attend, and the journey is about to begin to complete my final year at school, get some art jobs happening and sell, sell, sell myself to the masses. The final lap has begun, and tho it's gonna be daunting, scarey and financially tuff, I've committed myself to it and I'm ready to begin. Time to defeat my inner Demyrgorgon, baby! More stuff to come! Current Music: Faster Pussycat |
